Department of Emergency

About The Department:The Emergency Medicine Department (EMD) is a critical component of any Hospital or Healthcare System. It specializes in the immediate diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with acute illnesses, injuries, and life-threatening conditions.

The accident rates have been going up in our country due to industrialization and rapid increase in the number of vehicles on our roads. These accident victims require timely and effective treatment preferably in the first golden hour. There are also medical emergencies like cardiac emergencies and poisoning which require immediate attention. With a view to address these problems we have started a separate department to improve patient care on the 2nd December 2007 inaugurated by Honorable Health Minister Galla Aruna kumari.

Services Offered:

  1. Provides 24/7 Medical care for urgent and emergent Health Issues
  2. Caters to Trauma, Cardiac Emergencies, Strokes, Infections, Poisoning, Allergic reactions
  3. Handles triage, stabilization and coordination with other specialties.

Triage: Prioritizing patients based on Severity of Condition.

Resuscitation:: Immediate life-saving procedures (e.g., CPR, intubation).

Diagnostics: Rapid imaging and lab tests to confirm diagnoses.

Initial Treatment: Administering medications, fluids, wound care, etc.

Referral/Admission: Coordinating inpatient care or safe discharge with follow-up. Staff & Team Members Emergency Physicians(EPs): Specially trained in emergency care.

Nurses: Skilled in triage, emergency procedures, and trauma care.

EMTs: Provide inter hospital transport.Paediatric emergency care.Handling Medico legal cases and Death on arrival cases

Achievements in 2024:

  1. National Conference on Clinical Toxicology: Recent advanced and newer trends in clinical toxicology held on 8th & 9th of June at Dhanavantari lecture gallery, NRIGH.
  2. Mockdril Code Violet: Training programme for Doctors, Nursing & Security staff held on 10th October, 2024
  3. Mockdril Code Orange: Training programme for Doctors, Nursing & Security staff held on 4th December, 2024 Code Violet & Code Orange (Yearly Twice)
  4. CPR & BLS Training: Training Nursing Staff & Other Staff (Daily Routine)

Achievements in 2023:

  1. CME & Workshop on ECG: on 26th February, 2023
  2. Essence of Airway & ACLS: on 9th July, 2023
  3. Patient Safety week:Conducted external disaster mockdril management on 6th September, 2023

Achievements in 2022:

  1. World Emergency Medicine Day: We organized for “World Emergency Day” on 27th May-2022 with the theme of “We take care of you, please take care of us" and organized Academic Sessions on "Importance of ABG & ECG in Emergency” for faculty, PG’s, Interns and final year MBBS Students.
